Extensive Kitchen Renovation

Our client had unfortunately suffered water damage to the sub floor in their kitchen due to a leak. Because of this, the kitchen needed to be removed, so they made the decision to renovate the entire room in the process.

We were pleased to be able to provide our design, supply and installation service to guide them through what could have otherwise been a difficult journey.

About The Project

About the project

The customer booked in their initial survey visit, and upon arriving I could immediately see the issue they had with the kitchen floor – the floorboards themselves were ‘squishy’ – I could tell this strip out wasn’t going to be pleasant..!

We spent some time discussing what their vision was for the space and how they intended to use it, so we were able to come up with a layout fairly quickly, and then we picked out the exciting stuff like colours, door style, worktops, sink & taps, flooring and tiling. This meeting lasted for around an hour.

I took this information away and provided them with a set of 3D drawings, an initial proposal and video explanation of it all within 2 days.

As we’d spent a lot of time getting the details right on the first visit, we were able to conduct the design session over a zoom call. They were really happy with the design, so there were no changes to be made. The proposal came in slightly under the budget they had anticipated, so they asked if I would add on some additional works.

I completed the final proposal and sent over the following day, and they were happy to proceed, so accepted, sent over their deposit and we booked in a date for the project begin.

The customer wanted to source their own appliances, and we were contracted to supply and install everything else, as well as fixing the main issue of the rotten sub floor. There was also a radiator to be installed, decorating to do, and a few other supplementary items added on such as installing a blind and some custom oak shelving. We were looking forward to starting this one!

The Process & The Kitchen Design & Build In Progress

We began, as we always do – protecting the customers property – by laying floor protection in the passageways.

The existing kitchen was stripped out, along with tiles, and decommissioning water, electrics and gas in the room.

We then started the unpleasant process (see images!) of removing the water damaged floor. The area was then cleaned with a mould spray, and affected walls were treated with a mould resistant stain blocking paint.

We then made accessible the central heating system pipework and drained the system, as we were adding a radiator to this room. The floor joists and insulation was the installed, along with the central heating pipework for the new radiator we had fitted. We then refilled the system, checked the pipework was sound, and then installed the new floorboard. The new plumbing pipework for the sink and appliances was then run.

The electrical first fix work was then completed for all new power point and appliance locations. The electrical chases and any general holes were then filled and sanded ready for decorating. The room was then given 2 coats of white matte emulsion.

We then laid the LVT flooring that we had supplied, and installed the new skirting boards and MDF window sill, and gave the woodwork a coat of fresh paint. Floor protection was then laid over the new floor, ready for the installation of the new kitchen.

The customer had also asked us to make some bespoke oak shelving for the wall above the radiator, which we made and fitted.

Then began the kitchen installation..!

The Results

The finished kitchen looked fantastic, and the client was delighted with the new space and how we had transformed it. The slim frame profile of our Salarno range in matte white, paired with matte black slim d-bar handles worked great alongside the matte white metro wall tiles and cement grey grout, accented by a matt black tile trim.

The oak effect laminate worktops worked perfectly with the custom oak shelving on the wall above the new radiator, and we added matte black shelf supports to tie in with the handles to bring it into the rest of the kitchen design. Also the contrast of the light grey oak LVT flooring seemed to be a great choice for adding more subtle woodgrain into the overall design, and contrasted really well with the bold blacks and whites of the handles, doors, appliances, tiles, trim and grout.

This was one we were especially pleased to have been able to produce for the customer, given that they were quite apprehensive about it being a very disruptive and stressful process. I was delighted to be able to show them that it could be achieved on time, on budget and with no details spared – stress free!

We had not planned on refitting our kitchen but due to a serious leak under the kitchen floorboards, we had no choice but to rip out the whole thing and start from scratch. It was a huge project including elements of electrical work, plumbing and a brand new floor. This was extremely overwhelming, however we were supported from beginning to end by Freddy. He has excellent attention to detail, and provided lots of thoughtful and practical suggestions. He takes great pride in his work and evidently enjoys what he does. The work was completed within the agreed timescale and budget. He is very approachable and polite, and didn’t mind responding to our many and varied questions. The quality of the materials and equipment used is excellent. We feel comfortable to contact Freddy with any concerns or questions should they arise. He is quick to respond to messages and always helpful. We are confident the kitchen will last a long time and recommend Freddy without reservation.
